So you are retiring?  It is quite impossible for me to think that you have reached␈↓ αλ

Complete retirement is a bad thing unless dictated by health considerations, in my␈↓ αλ
opinion, and it should be abolished.  In my case, retirement simply meant going from␈↓ αλ
one job to another, with a refreshing change in environment.  I hope that you are␈↓ αλ
able to keep active in some way, perhaps with somewhat less presure than at IBM but␈↓ αλ
still with something worth doing.␈↓ αλ

I continue to work full time at Stanford, although I have begun to be very choosy␈↓ αλ
about the number and type of consulting jobs that I will accept.  I spend a lot of␈↓ αλ
time programming and I even have a display terminal in my study at home.␈↓ αλ

Bernice and I continue in good health.  We moved into a retirement home, or really␈↓ αλ
community, a couple of years ago where I have less home maintenence to do and where␈↓ αλ
Bernice does not have to cook, but otherwise our lives continue much the same.  I␈↓ αλ
highly recommend this sort of living.␈↓ αλ
␈↓ αλ
The Sequoias, where we are, is a rather unusual place, and I am actually closer to␈↓ αλ
my office than I was when I had a home on the Stanford campus.  Some 325 people live␈↓ αλ
in their own apartments in one storied buildings scattered around on a campus-like␈↓ αλ
plot of land with a central dining room.  We get complete medical care with our own␈↓ αλ
hospital on the grounds.  We have a wood-working shop, an electronics shop, ceramics␈↓ αλ
and lapidary shops etc. as well as bowling-on-the-green , shuffle board, and croquet␈↓ αλ
grounds.  About the only thing we lack is a swimming pool.  Actually it is a very␈↓ αλ
busy place, with many things going on all the time.  We are more active socially␈↓ αλ
than we have ever been before.␈↓ αλ
